The Northstar Group is a Singapore headquartered private equity and venture capital firm managing over US$2.6 billion in committed equity capital. We invest in fast-growing and leading businesses in Southeast Asia with a particular focus on Indonesia.

Since its founding in 2003, the Northstar Group has invested in more than 50 companies across the financial services, consumer/retail, manufacturing, technology, telecom, and agribusiness sectors. In aggregate, we have invested over US$4 billion together with our co-investors in the Southeast Asian region.

The investors in the Northstar Group funds include a global list of sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, endowments, family offices, and other institutional investors.

Our team of over 30 professionals brings together significant international experience, deep local market insight, and sensitivity to local conventions and conditions.

Northstar Advisors Pte. Ltd. holds a Capital Markets Services License for the provision of Fund Management services from the Monetary Authority of Singapore and is an Exempt Reporting Advisor with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.

    Northstar invests in Gojek.

    Northstar invests in Indomaret.

    Final close of Northstar Equity Partners IV Limited at US$810m of commitments.

    Northstar invests in ERA.

    Northstar Advisors Pte. Ltd. receives a Capital Markets Services License for the provision of Fund Management services from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

    Northstar invests in Centratama.

    Northstar invests in TCRB.

    Northstar invests in Trimegah.

    Northstar Advisors Pte. Ltd. registers with the United States Securities Exchange Commission as an Investment Advisor.

  • 2011

    Northstar raises US$820m for Northstar Equity Partners III Limited.

    Northstar and TPG enter into a strategic alliance, with TPG becoming a small minority partner in Northstar Group. Glenn Sugita and Patrick Walujo are appointed as special advisors to TPG.

  • 2008

    Northstar invests in Bank BTPN.

    Northstar raises US$285m for Northstar Equity Partners II Limited.

  • 2007

    Northstar completes fundraising for Northstar Equity Partners Ltd. at US$110m of capital commitments.

  • 2006

    Northstar invests in Alfamart.

    Northstar launches Northstar Equity Partners Ltd., the maiden fund of the Northstar.

    Northstar Advisors Pte. Ltd. registers as an Exempt Fund Manager with the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

  • 2003-2005

    Northstar Group was founded in 2003 by Patrick Walujo and Glenn Sugita. The firm’s business was originally established as an Indonesian merchant bank and the two Co-Founders sourced and executed a number of transactions in, among others, the telecommunications, energy and financial services sectors. In 2005 they advised on the US$1 billion leveraged buyout of Adaro, one of Indonesia’s largest coal companies.
